direct vent gas fireplace question?
I purchased a direct vent gas fireplace and had it installed this summer (napolean bgd36cf) I turned it on for the first time today and it was burning off a lot of smoke. I turned it off and waited a while, then turned it on again. after about 5 minutes there was some more smoke. Not as much though. It was still there after about 15 minutes so I shut it off. I thought that it may be normal “burn-off” but I was surprised at how much and how long it lasted.
I noticed that the latch for the glass on the top right will not lock shut. It hooks in to the glass but won’t “snap” shut like the bottom. the glass is still quite snug — i”d be surprised if this was the problem
anyone has any experince with this?
Your glass issue seems like an alignment issue. However, the smoke thing should definitely be looked at. Some smoke with new logs would be normal, but with it lasting that long I would have it checked. It sounds like your fuel to air ratio may be incorrect. Call the company that installed it or your local gas company and have them check it. You could be emitting some nasty carbon monoxide in your home.
